Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and Onlays Glendale

Inlays and onlays are used by dentists to restore teeth that have been damaged due to decay or trauma. In many instances, inlays and onlays are a more conservative approach to repairing a tooth without getting a full dental crown. They offer a better fit, stronger and longer lasting reparative solution for tooth repair. Inlays and onlays are additionally beneficial because they are made to match the color of your teeth.

The ways that inlays and onlays are placed can be identified by their name. Inlays are placed inside of the tooth, similar to a filling and onlays are placed on the surface or outside of the tooth. Onlays are used to help with the biting surface of the tooth.

What are the benefits of inlays and onlays?

Some advantages of getting inlays and onlays with our dentists in Glendale include:

  • Superior fit
  • Matching tooth color
  • Improves strength and tooth structure
  • Easy cleaning
  • Improved protection against re-infection

How are inlays and onlays placed?

Generally speaking, inlays and onlays can be completed in as little as two visits. During your first visit with our Glendale dentist, the damaged tooth is inspected and prepared. A mold is taken of the tooth and is sent to be made. Both the inlays and onlays can be made from gold, porcelain or resin materials. Provisional onlays or inlays may sometimes be used in patients while the final product is fabricated.

During your second visit, the provisional inlay or onlay is removed, and the new one is placed. Our dentist will make sure that it fits properly and does not impact or change your bite. Inlays and onlays are extremely stable and help restore your teeth without compromising its appearance.
